Aliens vs. Nazis vs. Batman vs. Chicken

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 30, 2009, 4:51 PM
And know, because I know of no other way to set these up, here are some good things/dad things I've encountered in the past while...

Good

- District 9 & Inglorious Basterds. Oh lordy, did the Summer movie season save the best for last! I saw them in a little double feature last week, & damn...It's kind of hard for me to say something great about these films that hasn't been said already. D9 had a some unique presentation, kickass alien designs, several unique concepts & characters you really cared about...And IB had a lot of suspense, a gloriously unique & twisted take on history, Cristoph Waltz's awesome performance, & that one awesome scene in the theater which introduced to me to an awesome David Bowie tune that shall now rank among my top faves. So yeah, awesome times to be had at the movies. ^_^

- Batman: Arkham Asylum. I was actually just going to rent this game for starters, but then the clerk at EB Games said they had this promotion: Pre-order the game, & as long as you pick it up on the day of release, you get $30 off. One day only, he said. Needless to say, since it was almost half off & garnering some of the year's best reviews, it was impossible to resist. Needless to say, it's been my current addiction at the time, excelling in everything from combat to story to voice acting (Mark Hamill FTW!!), with a grand amount of variety, a genuinely chilling atmosphere, & several moments that really feel straight out of the comic books. Several critics have noted it as this year's BioShock, & I definitely have to agree!

- Getting an extra week of part-time work. Nothing special, I'm just really glad I'm earning some more money. =P

- The loads of kickass & funny daily lists over at Topless Robot ([link]), ensuring that my productivity during said work will be slowed down considerably. XD Also reminds me that I have to get off my ass & write those lists I had my own ideas for...

Bad

- Walking into a bookstore & being a bit overwhelmed by several authors trying to cash in on the 40th anniversary of Woodstock everyone in the media is fixated on for now. Maybe it's just because I'm not a real fan of '60s music, but I am just a little bit sick of this (& from what some experts have wrote, I heard it wasn't even that amazing a concert to begin with).

- KFC's Double Down: [link] Good lord, I think I've actually felt heart pains just looking at it. I mean, I'm a fan of fast food just as much as the next guy, but...Wow. So it's actually come to this. Didn't they just invent this as a joke on 30 Rock? Saddest of all: I may actually be tempted to try it, if it wasn't for the fact that swiss cheese makes me queasy.

- Speaking of which, I think I've had some odd appetite problems recently...Like I have sudden stomach pains where it just feels completely empty or something...Kind of afraid it's like this one disease I saw on CSI where you always feel constantly hungry & empty, no matter how much you eat. o_O

- The lack of anything really new on Teletoon's upcoming schedule, with the only new thing they're announcing being the addition of King of The Hill...Which already airs seven days a week on another network here, & has been cancelled anyway. And you thought the Cartoon Network down south was creatively bankrupt...F*** you, CN Real...>_<

Well, that'd be all for now. I have more asylum inmates to beat up...And I need to do it fast,as my next addiction - Guitar Hero 5 - Comes out Tuesday. XD

Whee!

Things I learned/confirmed today during a trip to the annual carnival/exhibition:

- Soft-serve ice cream actually tastes better when surrounded by a large crowd, loads of bright colors, & speakers blaring '90s dance music.

- Despite what you tell yourself & no matter how much you resist, you will end up pissing away $15 for a shot at winning, say, a vintage-style Coca-Cola poster/wall clock.

- No matter how old you are, Tilt-A-Whirls are always f***ing awesome. ^_^

- The lack of a Gravitron does decrease the overall fun somewhat, but can be made up for with at least 4 other excellent rides.

- Apparently, the carnies that run games are huge fans of Invader Zim, as evidenced by the guys at separate booths who asked me where I got my Gir t-shirt, & offered me $20 for it, & took a picture of it...Actually, in retrospect, it kind of seems creepy now. o_O

- If you have any spare tickets leftover & want to blow them on something, do not try to recapture your youth by going in the fun house you went in several times when you were in grade school...Or at least not one featuring one of those cheap-ass plastic slides that's guaranteed to skin at least one part of your body. >_<

...All in all, still one excellent day. At the very least, i was able to score candy apples (only in season for one more month)! =P

Flipping on the radio...

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 5, 2009, 1:36 PM
Well, I'm bored & I really don't have anything interesting to say this time around, so here's a baker's dozen of kickass songs I found via Last.fm (with assistance from Hotspot Shield):

Infadels – "Girl That Speaks No Words" [link]
Screaming Trees - "All I Know" [link]
Spinnerette - "Ghetto Love" [link]
Kenna – "Say Goodbye to Love" [link]
The Bronx - "Six Days a Week" [link]
The Rasmus - "Guilty" [link]
Bush Tetras – "Can't Be Funky" [link]
CKY – "Familiar Realm" [link]
Madball - "Heavenhell" [link]
Pylon – "Feast On My Heart" [link]
Mad Sin - "1000 Eyes" [link]
Dead Kennedys – "Soup Is Good Food" [link]
Danzig – "Long Way Back From Hell" [link]

...And of course, if you have any recommendations from killer tunes as well, I'd be more than happy if you shared 'em! ^_^

Also, I really need to begin working on a set of special features for DA's 9th birthday. Unfortunately, the actual working on of said features may clash with the premiere of Monkeybone on Teletoon tomorrow night...Haven't seen that movie in years. I don't know if the memories will be good or bad, but at least it'll be one heckuva visual trip! =P

DA Rant Time!

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 29, 2009, 1:54 PM
How NOT to quit an account:

[link]

Ah, Sonic fan artists. Some of DA's most talented, but also those with some of the most fragile psyches. =P

Man, does this happen too often on DA. It's one thing to feel stuck in a rut, & to want to experiment & want to draw something new & original. I fully sympathize with that. But why do artists like these think that they need to make a new account just to get a bit of a fresh start? Why not just keep going & doing something new? Afraid your fans will get angry? Because if they do, they're so not your fans.

Also, deleting your entire gallery once you move: F***ING ANNOYING. That's basically just giving a big middle finger to everyone who's supported you over the years & loved all the kickass artwork you made. I know you're afraid of theft as well, but geez, at least think about a few watermarks first. >_<

But the worst part of this is that Winona here takes it one step further by actually disowning her character Venus ( [link] ), a simple, fun, & really cute & lovable creation that I'd definitely feel proud to have thought up. And she even asks people to delete all fan art of her? Damn, that is just cruel. =(

I mean, imagine if musicians acted like this. Your favorite band either gets tired of their current sound or loses a member, & what happens? They destroy all their master tracks, recall all their albums, demand no one play their songs anymore, etc., all that just because they wanted to try something new.

So, *WinonaHeart (or whatever name her new account has, consider yourself one of the poorest examples of how to deal with art block. Madam, the pointy finger of shame shall forever be aimed straight towards you. >:[
