Ladies & gentlement, welcome to the Mini-DDs Best of 2010 Extravaganza!! Our yearly roundup of the finest DD-worthy artwork produced by all of this site's Deviants over 2010!

And what a year 2010 was! You've all made some amazing work in that amount of time, & it was indeed tricky for me to narrow it all down to the 200 best Deviations (& yes, it had to be 200...After 2 "Mega Editions" with the same amount, the bar was kind of set for me). But after nearly 3 months of choosing the best, making difficult picks, thinking of descriptions, second-guessing some choices, dealing with Deviations put into storage, dealing with errors in the overall count, & countless hours of Team Fortress 2 writing everything up, here we are are!

...And for once in these specials, I can actually say "we" & refer to the creative team behind all of this! Yes, some thankful volunteers have helped out with the whole event this year, providing their own picks for the best Deviations of the year, & thus helping to bring a good chunk of variety to the festivites & make this our biggest special ever!!

And thus our kind contributors will be joining us throughout the night as guest hosts, sharing their own amazing picks for featured Deviations as well! They are:

...The Golden Jark Award! A symbol celebrating those Deviants who have a lot of community spirit. A magnificent little honor...That happens to have a dark chocolate center as well! With tiny bits of hazelnut & fudge crunch thrown in this time to boot!

And speaking of awards, didn't we have some actual Deviations to feature here as well? Right...So I guess I should show what these Deviations & the artists behind them will receive...



...The Platinum Fefcaine Award! A symbol celebrating the best DD-worthy artwork on DA, handed out on special occasions...And this one has a white chocolate center! With pretzel bits & cinnamon as well, to amp up the special flavor!

But is that all they're getting? Well, word has it we do have some contests planned with some extra goodies...But that comes after the presentations. Patience is a virtue, folks...

Also, three last things about the features themselves: One, I admittingly re-used previous descriptions for Deviations previously featured in other Mini-DDs articles, largely because I figured it would be a time-saver. Yes, it only took us two & a half months to get everything done now compared to three & a half months last year. Oh yes, that was indeed a big time-saver. Sheesh.

Two, me & sar-the-scare did our description in the "addition" format I also use to save time on large editions, just letting you know.

And three, to help break up any potential monotony with an article this big, once again we have hired musical guests to entertain you at certain intervals, playing their hits from some of the year's best videos! And we've also restocked the concession stand for the breaks! Now with Buncha Crunch!

Haha! This is my favourite piece from Alejandra, she really pushed herself to a whole new level to create a masterpiece with this entry for StudioXIII's Parallele Artbook!



ARTBOOK NO. 2 Illustration by sambees...Another Parallele entry. I'm sure that you already know budgie, aye? Her work is always stunning, and this piece is not the exception. This piece is special because I have a large print of it...signed...by Steph herself, in front of me...so die in envy.



Football Song - Matt Fishel by dronio...If you know me well, you'll know that I usually don't like this kind of guy on guy illustrations, hah (I have some very particular reasons, don't judge me)! But sometimes I have to make an exception, this one is so full of a gentle and loving atmosphere, the composition is great and when I talk about dronio, his style is, put in a single word: Amazing.



Fables De La Fontaine - 01 by davidkawena...BY ALL MEANS, FULLVIEW! Ok, davidkawena is known for his Disney fanarts, specially his Disney Heroes series. It's sure that you have seen those at least once, aye? However from all his work, I got astonished by his latest submissions about this project, Fables De La Fontaine. Seriously, they're to die for. I urge you to look at them! Nao! David has way more than just seminaked Disney princesses...XD



Red panda by Lumaga...From all of the Parallele Artbook (already mentioned), this is my favourite entry. It's so soft looking and the whole composition is great, but when scrolling down and down, I reach the point when I get lost in those clothes folds...

S E R E S Artbook by evacabrera...I've always loved Eva's style, but for some reason I see this entry as something completely different from what she usually does and I found it simply perfect. Loved the color scheme, composition, everything! My favourite piece from this artbook.



Blazing the Trail by TysonTan...I'm a big fan of extvia and I'm a huge olympic freak. So these two factors combined are a winning formula for me. In 2010 we had the Vancouver Winter Games and also the very first Youth Summer Games in Singapore. From this last one came out two of the cutest mascots ever created: Lyo and Merly, and extvia's rendition is, as usual, even better than the originals.



Seasons: Requiem -Full- by nicholaskole...Another obligatory FULLVIEW! I really have no words, but in short, homarusrex is one of my main inspirations in comic making. This short story is greatly emotive, the art is gorgeous, every panel is a masterpiece by itself and I've always loved when an artist is capable of telling a story without the necessity of words, & this is one of those cases. Stop reading this and FULLVIEW!

CHASING STARS for ThiefoWorld by jesonite...Haha, well an obvious choice, huh?  Not only is a piece by one of my best friends, but also a gift made for me. She has been a great & helpful supporter of our Mini-DDs for more than a few years now, & she's definitely displayed a lot of great taste in Deviations, so I was extremely glad when she decided to volunteer! Now, she said this was kind of last minute, so I don't know if it's the best, but give her a hand anyway, & let's see what she has to offer!


Mad Paper Party by HeartGold...Maybe I'm biased because of my undying love for the fun and quirky Paper Mario franchise, or because I've experienced the layerless, primitive, hard-to-work with pain that is a Tegaki canvas, but I can't look at this picture without finding myself just thinking "WOW" every time. The picture itself really is like a party, there's so much going on and so much action in the picture I just expect the characters to come jumping out of the screen in some ridiculous explosion of colour and greatness.



3D Movie by pure1water...This is one seriously under appreciated piece of art. The retro style is so fun and bouncy, the composition is immersive and so well done and the concept itself is pulled off amazingly. There's just something so adventurous about it, it feels so alive, like Saturday morning cartoons gone by.



evolution of woman's spirit by ilsung...Honestly, what I can say about this that hasn't already been said without words in the piece itself? The picture itself is gorgeous, but it's the message that really gets me here; I could rave about how all the little details like the woman's posture and the change of surroundings help show it off, but I don't think I could ever possibly describe the feeling I get from just taking a good look at the piece.

I'm A Mechanic by darmoon87...Okay, here's one with a composition to die for. The silhouettes connecting each event in a timeline-esque manner give off a dramatic vibe and clearly tell a story in under 10 pictures with absolutely no dialog and focus on just a single character. How the artist managed to tell so much with so little (not that the art isn't gorgeous) is honestly inspiring.



Alien Diner by LuigiL...I've always had an affinity for strange things in normal situations, and this cute piece is definitely no exception. The artist's sweet and innocent looking style goes hand in hand with curious theme of a little boy catching glimpse of an alien in the diner, and the design of the alien itself is very charming (argyle socks!) Another detail I particularly liked was the alien's own version of the newspaper.



Estelle, my little Estelle by Nephyla...Look at these colours! This adorable picture is so sweet and cheery I feel like I'm getting a toothache that hurts so good just looking at it. The choice of colours, the gorgeous dress, the storybook-like background, and the little woodland animals make this such an irresistibly charming piece.



Trapped Imagination by ZEBES...This picture really deserves a second luck to notice all the little details such as all the restraints and the untouched papers on the floor. The concept of a trapped imagination is shown to be agonizing, almost painful, having the imagination restrained for the sake of a machine harnessing it like some kind of energy. I might be getting ahead of myself making the comparison, but I'm sure any extra busy artists have felt something like this at some point.



Lay in Ash by thestoicmachine...This is a nice simple piece, but I really happen to like what it leaves to the imagination. The design of the character is especially neat, and the almost skeptical expression along with the subtle fire way in the background and floating ashes seem to tell a bit of a story. There's just something so quirky about it that makes it appealing.



Bohemian Girl by TAIYANGGUODU...Now, this piece is already pretty popular, but I just had to feature something from this artist. The style and the incredibly smooth animation make this an almost hypnotic image to watch on an endless loop.



Singing for extinction by Size-And-Stupidity...Dinosaurs! Alright, this picture is just adorable, a little dinosaur in a top hat singing to a bird in the moonlight, what's not to love? The composition and style on this one is great, and the realistically done, teeth-filled maw of the dinosaur somehow only adds to the charm.

I'd say we need to trot out the Deviation of the Year contest again, even though it's failed the past couple of times...So how can we juice this up?

Yes, you can score a copy of one of the year's most anticipated games, Portal 2! I suppose I could mention how this ties into some sort of metaphor about jumping through a portal from one year to another, but who cares? All we need to know is it's frickin' Portal 2!!

Okay, I promise to stop bolding the title there. But yes, we have 3 copies of Portal 2 to give away (with 3 copies of the original Portal as runner-up prizes) via our good friends/lords & masters at Steam! And how do get one these copies, pray tell? By winning one of three contests...

CONTEST #1: DEVIATION OF THE YEAR. Those of you up there who just kicked ass, this one's for you. And for those of you who want to reward said kickassery as well, of course!

So here's how you play: See all those other Deviants surrounding you up there? All you have to do is fight them out for the title of Deviation of the Year, & then you walk away with Portal 2. Simple, huh?

So how do you get that title? By amassing enough votes from your fellow Deviants. Which leads us to...

Also, given recent events in the world, we've decided to use these contests to help out a little bit...

The recent earthquake & tsunami in Japan has shocked all of us, & left several innocent people in a state of ruin & a lot of worry. Naturally, it is our duty to help out our Japanese friends in this time of need.

Herego, with each person voting for Deviation of the Year, 50 cents will be donated to the Red Cross to help out with disaster relief overseas in Japan & anywhere else affected, & $1.00 will be donated with each article of featured Deviations sent to us as well.

I don't know if that seems like a whole lot, but at a time like this, we can only hope that every little bit helps, so let's all band together to help as much as we can.

...One last thing, & it is kind of a biggie: Because I can't afford to invest in another failed contest, there are "minimum" requirements to the number of entries in order to make the contests valid: If there aren't at least 20 votes for Deviation of the Year, Contests #1 & #2 are null & void, & if there aren't at least 10 entries for Contest #3, it is also null & void. However, the money going towards the Red Cross will NOT be affected if this happens, it will be donated no matter what.

Sorry if this seems a bit dickish, but with $100+ on the line & a bit of a tight budget, a solid return investment is pretty important here.
